Little Guns

Any gun on you is better than any gun you have sitting at home.

It is very common when we start the concealed carry or self defense journey they we are told that we HAVE TO carry a certain gun, caliber, or capacity. The more I work with people and concealed carry I am convinced this is more about ego inflation than objective self defense or preparedness.

“Must be a Glock, must be 9mm, and must be a Glock 19”

Please don’t misunderstand, if you want to daily carry a Glock 17, with a red dot, weapon mounted light, and spare magazine, then rock on.  However, I would much rather you have a J Frame in your pocket because you end up leaving the instagram gun at home because it sucks to carry or gets in the way.

“I can’t to that, I have my gun on”

One of the biggest issues I have come to a realization on, especially now that I have kids, your life should not revolve around the gun. Maybe a better way to put it, your life shouldn’t be limited by your gun. If you shy away from climbing the playground equipment, playing horsee, or rolling around with your children because your gun will show; that’s the wrong answer. Don’t be the bouncer standing on the sidelines on your life, “pulling security”. Live your life and enjoy your loved ones.

“YOU might be able to do that, but I will loose my job”

While I can pretty much carry any gun 99% of the time and maybe you can too; there are many folks that cannot. Many good folks live in places, cities, &/or states that are NOT 2A friendly. Moreover, they might be fired or face prosecution for carrying weapons. They are NOT going to be able to carry a Glock 19.

An instructor, I think it was Chuck Haggard, presented a challenge to “gun guys” Get a “regular” job at Target, Walmart, Lowes, ect. You will have to wear some type of uniform, often with a tucked in shirt, and be moving all day, reaching over your head, carry things, and to top it off you will be fired on the spot if they catch you carrying a weapon. It is much harder than you think.

50% of the United States lives in areas with many or strict infringements on the possession and carrying of weapons. Some jurisdiction have targeted their law abiding citizens when they spot the pocket knife clips protruding from their pockets.  I am thankful that I am not in that position, but I know many are.

Lets get to work

Our goal is to empower all law abiding citizens to take steps to protect themselves and loved ones. We train all different types of people and love being a part of your personal journey of sharpening your skills with your particular weapon of choice; big or small.

The current administration is trying to appoint a gun control activist that is EXACTLY what we have feared. He said on the record in front of congress what his agenda is. Can you imagine what he really plans behind closed doors.

I hate getting political, but this is a full court press against me and you, law abiding gun owners.

Please, at a minimum, us the link below to quickly send a message to your representative.  I would also suggest you support one of the Pro-2A groups that will fight for our rights.

Now that we have covered the bad, some good news. Arkansas is likely to pass more legislation that will be very good for gun owners. More on that soon.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome USCCA

New for 2021, we have partnered with the US Concealed Carry Association.

They offer a huge amount of training in addition to the protection for you and your family if the worse case scenario happens. I really like that they cover bonding and have money to cover civil lawsuit damages, as well.

They have also offered a free guide for our students past and present:

CHCL fees are too high!

There is a bill in the works to reduce the Concealed Carry fees. It also is that is rumored to have the Governor’s support. At this time you can easily get a permit from another state for half the fees that Arkansas charges, this needs to change.

Fees are currently $138 and $60, the bill proposes $50 and $25.

Please Contact the Governor and your Legislators to express your opinion on the fee reductions:

Flying with Firearms

In our classes we often get questions about flying with firearms.  We took a trip to San Diego for the holidays so I thought it would be a great opportunity to share the experience.

Wheels Down Felon

Make sure you know the law of every place you will be stopping or making a connection.  Myself, even as a law enforcement officer, would be an instant felon if I landed in the wrong state with this deadly item:

GLOCK 17 Round Magazine

Law for Carry, Storage, & Transport

Make sure you know if your permit is honored at your destination.  If it is not, you need to know the laws on possession and transportation of firearms.

Airline Procedures

TSA Website

It’s pretty simple, but contact your airlines to confirm what they want you to do:

  • Firearms must be unloaded
  • Magazines must be unloaded
  • Ammunition in a purpose built container; just use the box it came from the store in.
  • Locked in a hard-sided container
  • Transported as (or in) checked baggage only

I used a small metal case that had a combination lock.  Then placed that in our checked bag. (Has my phone number on the outside)

Our airline did not put our bag on the baggage claim carousel.  The bag had to be picked up on in person from either the ticket counter or baggage service.  This will vary at each airport.

Lock-n-Load

Walking into the closest bathroom and locking-n-loading might not be the best idea.  There might not be anything illegal about it, but the sounds of loading weapons in the bathroom stall is likely to spook someone and result in you meeting local law enforcement.

You are not doing anything wrong.

Don’t act weird or like you are doing something wrong.  Some airports will not bat an eye when you mention a firearm.  Others will looked confused and have to ask someone what to do.  Make sure you leave with plenty of time and don’t be in a hurry. Ultimately, the airline has the say on how things will go on their airplane. If you run into problems, just be calm and polite.

My Load Out

Ruger LCP
Tuff-Tie Disposable Hand Restraints
Badge
Custom Pocket Holster
Ankle Holster (in checked bag)
2 empty magazines
Pocket knife (Benchmade Triage)
Box of Ammo
Business card with Phone number

Most importantly I was on vacation and wanted to carry the minimum and not worry about it.

I left my badge and business card on top to help prevent startling anyone that might see the setup.  The ticket desk attendant in California was noticeably uncomfortable when I mentioned a firearms, but seemed to be put at ease after seeing the badge.  My home state attendant didn’t bat an eye, asked a couple questions, added the card, and put the bag on the belt.
